When you try so hard to stop thinking about something, don’t you hate it? This is when you tell someone not to look at something and they look right after you tell them no. They know they shouldn’t do it anyway because they can’t help themselves.
I have read multiple books on growing attitude and character. I have mentioned all the best books here: Recommended books by sudarshan purohit. I am sure it will help you a lot in becoming a better (more happy and successful) individual.
You keep telling yourself that you don’t want to think about anything but you can’t stop yourself. Thoughts of what you say to yourself will not go away It is horrible when you cannot stop thinking about something scary or annoying. So what can you do How can you stop thinking about something boring?
Well here are 5 things you can include in your daily life that can help you stop thinking about something.
Annoy yourself – Sometimes the best way to stop thinking about something is to do something physical to confuse yourself. This may include physical exercise, playing an instrument, or dancing. Occupying your thoughts with activities can distract your mind from constantly thinking about something.
Mind, body, and soul are all connected. Doing physical activities that are enjoyable with the body can take your mind away from the thoughts you don’t want to think about. Talk about it with someone you trust-sometimes we need a release of the thoughts in our heads. If you keep the thoughts in mind, you can continue to think about them even if you don’t want to.
Talking to someone can also provide insights into why you keep thinking about something and the thoughts may go away. There is a strong connection between your thoughts and the way you feel. And it goes both ways. The way you think affects your sensitive state and your emotional state. For example, when you are feeling sad, you look at the world through a depressed lens. You will focus more on the negative, engage in harsh self-criticism, and predict that things will end badly.
Sharing with someone is also helpful whether you say the details of these thoughts or not, having a very hard time getting something out of your mind. It doesn’t come down to thinking about something you don’t want to think about.
Mindfulness Exercises – Mindfulness is a form of meditation that focuses on staying in the moment. Mindfulness exercises require a lack of understanding or interpretation of the judgment of the feelings and senses that occur at the moment and encourage you to engage with the environment around you now. Mindfulness exercises have been proven to help reduce stress due to their ability to relax the body and mind.
Mindfulness exercises are a lot of practice and the more you use them, the easier it is for you to focus on the moment. There are different types of mindfulness. Exercises are one of the best things but it is important to find out which type of exercise works best for you!
Anticipate thoughts again – as much as you try to keep thoughts out of your head and you can’t stop thinking about them, change thinking. The process of thinking. You may discover why you can’t stop thinking about what you have in mind. Finding the root of a resolution or thought can take your thought out of your head. Remind yourself that you are in control of your thinking and if you can’t stop thinking about something, don’t force it.
Try to fill your thoughts with such things or don’t let the thoughts disturb your day. Remember these are just thoughts and you are in control. Talking to someone about your thoughts can be as liberating as writing them. Writing down what you can’t stop thinking about with a journal or a piece of paper can help you get the thoughts out of your head.
Or throw away what you have written, especially if they have annoying or frightening thoughts. Cut, tear, whatever you want to do to mean the destruction of thought. Sometimes gaining control of thoughts by destroying them helps you to stop thinking about them.
If you can’t stop thinking about something and the content seems to be yours or yours it’s a constant struggle, consult a mental health professional. On the flip side, your thoughts also affect your feelings.
When you start to think about something worrying – like someone missed or someone who has treated you badly, you start to feel sad. The more you think about sad things, the worse you feel. And the more you lose your temper, the more you think about sad things. This is a cycle that is hard to break. You need to be aware of changing the channel in your brain so that you don’t get stuck in a dark place.
Thinking about feeling bad or feeling bad is not always bad. Sometimes, it is part of the healing process. And sometimes, you can turn these thoughts and feelings into something more productive. But it is important to distinguish between rumors and problem-solving.
If you are on the back of your bill, thinking about how to get caught can be helpful. But imagining yourself homeless or thinking about how inappropriate you are in the back is not fruitful. So ask yourself, “Am I rumoring or solving problems?” If you have a problem, you are buzzing.
If you actively seek solutions, you are solving the problem. Problem-solving can help you move forward. But the buzz will leave you behind. If you are buzzing, you need to change your channel. Saying to yourself, “Don’t think about it,” probably won’t work.
Your brain will return to those unpleasant thoughts in about two seconds. You need to be active in changing the channel in your brain (you want to change the channel on your TV). The best way to do this is to engage in an activity that bothers you to find something that requires some serious mental energy for at least a few minutes.
Here are some examples of how you can change the channel in your brain:
- Call a friend and talk about something completely different.
- Challenge yourself to rearrange your bookcase in 10 minutes.
- Sit down and plan your next vacation.
- Spend a few minutes in a clear room.
- Turn on some songs and dances.
- Work hard (slow rotation will give you more time to think but concentration is needed to work faster).
- Involved in a hobby.
The key is to find something that works for you. You need to experiment with a few different strategies until you find the one that best helps you change the channel in your brain.
Like some mental health problems, frustration and anxiety, it increases the chances that you think about unpleasant things.
The opposite is also true – thinking about unpleasant things increases your chances of developing a mental health problem. If you find it very difficult to get disturbing images out of your head but you always find yourself feeling negative, seek professional help. Talking to a therapist helps you think and feel differently.
