“A great marriage is not when the ‘perfect couple’ comes together. It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.” – Dave Meurer

Marriage is not only a bond that takes between two people it is a spiritual connection that connects two people eternally. It is a bond when people get to know each other and understands each other better.

Mariage allows them to share their unconditional love, care, and affection towards each other. Marriage in different countries has different meanings but in India, it is considered a ritual and auspicious occasion when not only two people but two souls meet.

I have read multiple books on growing attitude and character. I have mentioned all the best books here: Recommended books by sudarshan purohit. I am sure it will help you a lot in becoming a better (more happy and successful) individual.

Marriage is more than simply a legalized union between a man and woman; it is a socially acknowledged and approved relationship. In India, people generally believe that marriage is not between two individuals, but it is between two families in terms of bonds that it creates between them. It is also a sacrament, certainly, marriage provides recognition or legitimacy to children; it confers acknowledged social status on the off-springs, and this is important in terms of inheritance and succession.

In India, men and women are expected to get married when they reach a certain age as there is a fear that they would not find the right partner, or no partner at all, as they grow older. It is 2020, but the perception still holds true across caste, class, and communities. The biological clock, of course, has a role to play in the institution that largely bases itself on procreation so as to continue the lineage.

However, with men and women becoming more vocal about their choices, arranged marriage in India has been witnessing an evolution of sorts. While parents initiate the process in most cases, it is their children who are taking the final call, in a set-up that is being dubbed as semi-arranged marriage.

While there are many festival-related rituals in Hinduism, vivah (wedding) is the most extensive personal ritual an adult Hindu undertakes in his or her life. Typical Hindu families spend significant effort and financial resources to prepare and celebrate weddings. The rituals and processes of a Hindu wedding vary depending on the region of India, local adaptations, resources of the family, and preferences of the bride and the groom.

Nevertheless, there are a few key rituals common in Hindu weddings – Kanayadan, Panigrahana, and Saptapadi; these are respectively, gifting away of daughter by the father, voluntarily holding hand near the fire to signify impending union, and taking seven steps before fire with each step including a set of mutual vows. After the seventh step and vows of Saptapadi, the couple is legally husband and wife. Jain and Buddhist weddings in India, share many themes but are centered around their respective religious ideas and texts.

Sikhs get married through a ceremony called Anand Karaj, a ritual started by the third leader of Sikhism, Guru Amar Das. The couple walks around the holy book, the Guru Granth Sahib four times.

Indian Muslims celebrate a traditional Islamic wedding following customs similar to those practiced in the Middle East. The rituals include Nikah, payment of financial dower called Mahr by the groom to the bride, signing of the marriage contract, and a reception.

Indian Christian weddings follow customs similar to those practiced in the Christian countries in the West in states like Goa but have more Indian customs in other states. The couple meets in the presence of a minister, often in a church or place of worship. Readings from the Bible take place. The bride and groom take their marriage vows. The bride and groom often exchange rings as a sign of their endless love.

So, here a question comes if marriage is such an auspicious event then what are the qualities that one should look for in his or her better half?

Choosing a life partner is the most important decision you will ever make – far more crucial than choosing a job, house, or group of friends. All the decisions you make will be together, you’ll have to sleep next to them every night and you’ll still have to love them when you’re both old and wrinkly.

So, it’s vital to make sure you’re looking for the right things…

1. A sense of humor

The course of love never did run smoothly, and neither did the course of quitting your job, moving house, having children, or dealing with tragedy. Difficult things WILL happen in your life, so it’s important to make sure you have someone to make you smile along the way.

 2. No game-playing

When it comes to choosing a serious partner, who’s going to be there forever, you should be past the games of who texted first and wondering if they actually like you. The right person will put their cards on the table, even if it means risking getting hurt.

3. A strong friendship

When the first few exciting dates are over, and you’re comfortable enough to be in your pajamas together eating crinkly chips, having a solid friendship to rely on is everything.

4. Reliability

Life is hard enough without worrying about whether someone is going to show up or call when they say they will – a reliable, solid partner will never leave you wondering where you stand.

5. Romance

Sure, every day can’t be Valentine’s Day, but the occasional bunch of flowers, meal out or even peck on the cheek can make all the difference in the world to a lasting relationship – and never forget why you got together in the first place.

6. Shared values

Whether you’re in agreement about how many kids you want, where you want to live, or simply that you just both love a big bowl of pasta, having important things in common can help you to build a solid ground for your future together.

7. They get on with your family

Never forget that your family has your back more than anyone else, so they can sniff out a bad partner from a mile away. If they approve of yours, everything in your life should be ten times easier.

8. Being hardworking

Someone’s willingness to stay at the office late and impress their boss rather than going to the pub with all the interns means they’ve got their priorities straight – and they won’t be the one playing PlayStation in a few years’ time while you’re slaving away at work. You’ll be building a home together on equal grounds.

9. They really like you

It’s not only about loving you. They have to like you, too, even when you’re being a moody git, even when you’d rather watch TV than listen to their story from the weekend, even when you’re angry with them and have said some things you’ll probably regret later.

10. Being honest

You need to know when you’re being hard work and when you should be apologizing. Similarly, you need to know what really happened on that stag do. Communication is everything – without it, you don’t have a relationship.

Everything written here is important but the most important of all is their unconditional love towards you which makes a marriage perfect.
