While it has always been imagined that video games can create problems in a character’s life if they play them for too much time, too often, the latest analysis confirms that video games do have an effect. There are things, however, that a person can do to decrease the effect of video game use and decrease the probability of video game addiction seriously affecting a personalities’ life.
What to Do to Better Cope with Video Game Addiction
If you sense you can’t get away from your preferred video game or have created very big gaming bills unnecessarily, don’t worry, there are a few steps you can take to bring your relationship with video games back down to normal.
1. Track your video game use. Yes, it’s a huge difficulty to do, but the better you keep a look at the time you spend playing video games, the better you will be able to handle it. Note down in a notepad when you start and stop gameplay. Keep the journal for a certain time, then go through the period of time you’re utilising on every game, or if it’s just a single game, the activities that keep you in-game for so long.

2. Start the weaning. Now that you know you’re wasting 20-30 hours a week on gameplay, it’s time to begin reducing it. Take it slow and begin with the least vital game or situation in a game. Commit to decreasing the time used on that game or instance by just 10% the initial few days. So if you’re using 10 hours a week on preparing for the fights, aim for 9 hours the following week. That means being more conscious each time you’re in a game doing that activity, and trying to cut things short sooner rather than later.
3. Commit to being in the moment. One of the reasons some characters love playing video games as much as they do is mainly because it is very rewarding and almost always, fun. Most conventional video games also give a level of community interactivity with different players in the game, which is also very exciting. The key here is to realize what’s necessary to your life.

If it’s more essential for you to spend time with your online friends than your real friends or your partner, that’s your preference. But never expect your loving partner to still be there when you realize you have time for him or her. It is a conscious preference you make every time you choose the control or sit at the laptop, and it is one you have to become more conscious of to change that choice to one that can accommodate both in your life. Living life by the moment means, first of all, to live life outside of a screen.
4. You don’t need that kind of connection. So many people spend so much time online or playing video games because they assume it is a necessary part of their relations with others, or with their capacity to move forward in the game. For what reason? If you need such unhealthy connectivity, that indicates something isn’t entirely healthy with some of those connections, to start with.

5. Turn it off. Yes, that’s right. Turn it off. There’s no simpler way to deal with video game addiction than to simply turn off the PS5 or the laptop and go out and do something completely brand new. By switching it off, you’re taking back a thoughtful handle of your life and this small piece of technology. Instead of it calling to you, you’re telling it, “Hey, I’ve had for one day. See you in the morning.” Set a deadline every evening for a period to retire game playing, and then don’t check or use it again until the following day.

6. Technology works for us, not the other way around. If technology is taking control of your life creating stress, anxiety, arguments with other people in your life, or financial hardships then you have a backwards relationship with technology. Technology including video games works for us.
If it’s not working for you, you’ve chosen to be on the losing side of the relationship, and it’s time to put a stake in the ground and take responsibility and control for your use of the technology. Set aside specific times of the day or evening you will play your favourite video game, for instance, rather than doing so every spare moment you get. Instead of playing video games being the default thing you do, change the default to “living my life.”
Video game addiction does not have to spoil your life, your job, or your connections with someone else. If these techniques still don’t aid, it may be a signal that your video game addiction is more of a problem in your life than you thought.
