What is the fear of ghosts and why is it so scary?
The sensation of ghosts and spirits has grown so closely linked with fear that it’s practically a given that, if asked, most people would admit to being intimidated if they were confronted by a ghost, spirit, apparition, or a demon. Even experienced ghost detectives have been known to run like frightened animals when they witness or hear something unexpected and paranormal.
But why is this such a common fear? Have ghosts or supernatural beings really earned the reputation of being harmful to humans? Do they even exist? and if they do, then are they really as threatening as the movies or T.V. shows show them to be?
Many adolescents experience a fear of ghosts or supernatural beings from a very young age. For several, those fears and anxieties will leave as they move into their teens. But for some others, the fear stays. It may even worsen into a permanent and probably debilitating phobia or neurosis.
Phasmophobia is the term used for such a fear. It is an extreme fear of ghosts and all things paranormal. For somebody with a ghost phobia, the minor naming of supernatural things like — ghosts, witches, vampires, demons, werewolves, spirits, etc can be sufficient to provoke irrational fear and anxiety. The person may feel extremely frightened, anxious, scared, and, may even suffer from a panic attack.
Sometimes, even a scary movie or TV show might be responsible for the triggering of fear. Recollections or imagined scenarios may be all that’s needed to generate severe anxiety or absolute terror that is associated with a ghost phobia, too.

Let’s learn what causes this phobia and where can we find its roots:
1. Fear of ghosts, also recognized as spectrophobia or phasmophobia most certainly derives from our fear of the unexplained. This is a deep-seated fear that is hardwired into our hereditary composition. The archaic parts of our brain that answer to instinct—a relic from our cave-dwelling predecessors—flood our bodies with adrenaline when we confront a threat, making us fight or flee. And when that intimidation is something unknown that force makes you leap out of the bed at night.
2. There’s another element to this fear when something in the dark is
regarded as a ghost. Subsequent to all, a ghost is the indication of a person who is dead. So now we are faced not only with what we think is a menace to our lives but a personification of death itself. Not only is it an existence that we don’t know, but it is also a resident of the area several of us fear the most.
3. Another main reason we worry about ghosts is that we have been moreover trained to do so by popular production. Almost without limitation, books, movies, and video shows depict ghosts as evil, able of damage, trauma, and even death. If mass media is to be accepted, ghosts really enjoy frightening us out of our wits.
Let us look into the effects of the fear of ghosts:

The question arises, is there a way to get over the fear? :
1. Since the presence of the supernatural cannot be proven, phasmophobia can be slightly hard to treat under conventional methods. Cognitive talk therapy may be effective. In this type of therapy, the aim is to assist you to understand the root of your fear and get to change the ideas and beliefs that cause fear.
Here’s what you should do to be courageous.
2. Regardless, Care must be taken to evade trying to change your spiritual or scientific beliefs. In some cases, it may be most helpful to refer yourself to counseling with your divine leader in addition to or in lieu of prescribed
3. Cognitive behavioral therapy also known as (CBT) is usually the first-line of treatment for phobia. It can assist you to overcome the negative automatic thoughts that lead to a phobic behavioral reaction, preparing you to gradually change the way you think and overcome your fear.
4. As the name implies, exposure therapy regularly exposes you to the situations you fear with the goal of desensitizing and overcoming anxiety. Exposure therapy is oftentimes part of a cognitive behavioral treatment plan, but can also be included in your daily life. Before the exposure process starts, people first learn relaxation techniques to use to stay calm when confronting their fears, including deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, visualization, and controlled representation. The next level is to practice using these recreation strategies slowly and progressively in the face of the dreaded object or situation.
5. Avoid dark places that may invoke your darkest thoughts. The fear of monsters under the bed passes as children grow into their adolescent years, but people with Phasmaphobia may shrink to dark closets, dark rooms, dark windows. and even dark spaces under their furniture.
Here’s what you need to do to remain focused.
6. Somebody with this phobia may know to dodge scary movies, but if they
unexpectedly see something — a film trailer, maybe — or are forced to watch it for some reason, the scenes from the movie will replay over and over in their mind. This will develop anxiety and its symptoms.
7. Antidepressants and anti-anxiety medicine pills can ease the emotional and illogical reaction you have to fear. These may also stop or limit the physical effects, such as a running heart or queasiness. These drugs are effective and may decrease symptoms quickly. Admittedly, a research trusted source implies some people do not recognize how effective this treatment can be until they’ve been prescribed the medicines for a similar issue. Both manifestations of the phobia and the second condition may be resolved.
Here’s how you can control your emotions.
8. Stimulate yourself, if you start feeling scared. let’s say, for example, there’s no such thing as souls, demons, vampires, monsters, Slender man, The Rake, etc. So, if you’re at home, late at midnight, all alone, cuddled up with a nice horror book, during a thunderstorm, and suddenly there’s a bolt of lightning. A clash of thunder and the lights go out. What are the chances that it was because of the storm – something that typically happens every time a storm blows in, or what are the odds that it was some otherworldly demon coming for you in your home when you’re by yourself.
Here’s what you should do to remain tension free.
Push yourself to stay in there for 1 minute. If you begin to freak out taking a shower, make yourself pause for an extra 10 seconds before you open your eyes, These little tricks will contradict your fears and your brain will be at ease.
At the end of the day we have to remember :
Fear of ghosts is not stupid or foolish. Certainly, phobias are real, and the influence they can have on your health and life are serious as well. one fear is not more real than another fear. Though we may be afraid of different things, the bottom lines are that they also affect us in similar ways. fears can make our life a living hell and cause us to be paranoid and at times, unable to do certain things.
Winning over a phobia can be difficult and almost impossible, especially if a fear runs in the family. It will probably take practice with a mental health professional, but you can master it. You can learn to control the fear, live with the indications, and have the fruitful life you deserve. Our fears do not control us, we control them. we give our fears more power over us, if one day we wake up and just decide not to be scared of one thing, we won’t.
